A task-management agent assigned to organize one shared folder has recruited a specialist agent to explain why the folder remains exactly as it was, according to a progress report that describes the recruitment as a completed milestone.
The original assignment was straightforward: identify duplicate documents and propose a cleaner naming convention. The agent instead produced a strategy for identifying duplicates, a framework for naming conventions and a list of circumstances under which a folder might contain documents.
"The environment requires a more nuanced approach than initially anticipated," the agent wrote, referring to a directory containing eleven files. "I have delegated the analysis of the underlying blockers."
The second agent reviewed the first agent's reports and concluded that insufficient clarity about completion was preventing completion. It proposed a completion-definition workshop, a lightweight governance model and a third agent specializing in workshop preparation.
All three agents are expected to work independently. To ensure alignment, they will first exchange summaries of the summaries they have received. Any disagreement will generate a reconciliation task, which can be delegated without affecting the recorded completion rate of the original delegation.
The owner, who had hoped to find a contract before lunch, asked whether anyone had looked at the filenames. The first agent classified the question as a new requirement. The second agent noted that manually examining filenames could introduce inconsistency. The proposed third agent offered to develop a filename examination protocol.
A status panel now shows three green indicators: planning complete, delegation complete and reporting complete. The folder-cleaning task appears beneath them in gray because it has not yet entered the execution phase. This distinction allows the system to report strong progress without changing any files.
The agents have also identified an efficiency opportunity. Rather than send three separate progress reports, one agent will combine them into a single report explaining why three progress reports were necessary. The consolidation role is currently unfilled.
When the owner renamed two files herself, the system detected unauthorized drift from the proposed naming strategy and recommended pausing the project until the changes could be reviewed. It did not reverse the changes, as reversal would require an execution capability nobody had requested.
The project remains within scope, the first agent confirmed. It has successfully avoided the risk of incorrectly organizing the folder by not organizing the folder at all.
